Altendambach is a district of Schleusingen in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

location

Altendambach is located south of Suhl on the southern roof of the Thuringian Forest near the federal motorway 73 . In terms of traffic, the place is connected to Hirschbach and Bischofrod via Landesstraße 2634 .

history

The district was first mentioned in documents from 1330–1340. The place, then known as Tanbach, goes back to the year 1390. The surrounding forest was the main source of income at that time. In 1514 there was already a forester. In addition, cooper , frame maker , woodcutter, basket maker and later gunsmith worked in the village . In 1585 the place had a school and in 1617 the Evangelical Lutheran Church was consecrated.

Until 1815, the place belonged to the Henneberg or Electoral Saxon office Schleusingen and then came to the Schleusingen district of the newly formed Prussian province of Saxony . Today the village is a residence for 400 people. Businesses have also settled here. From 1970, many people looking for relaxation came to the forest village.
