Rennsteig song
The Rennsteig song is a three-stanza wandering song that is well-known in Thuringia and beyond . The text is by Karl “Kaschi” Müller (1925–2011), the music by Herbert Roth (1926–1983).
The song is about the connection to Thuringia, its nature and the experiences while hiking on the Rennsteig and was written on April 14, 1951 in the community hall (today: "Hotel und Gasthof zum Goldenen Hirsch") of Hirschbach near Suhl by Herbert Roth and Waltraut Schulz ( 1930–2017) sung in public for the first time. The song begins with the following verses :
I love to wander through the country on the Rennsteig with
the bag on my back, the guitar in my hand.
The Rennsteig song is regarded as the "secret national anthem of Thuringia". It is better known than the actual Thuringian hymn Thuringia, lovely land .
