location

Elende is located north of the Hainleite on state road 3080 (formerly B80 ) and is flanked north by federal motorway 38 . The Wipper flows in a westerly direction, about 1.7 kilometers from the town center . There are agricultural areas around the village; this is followed by a large forest area. Neighboring towns are south of Friedrichslohra , Großwenden and Kleinwenden and Münchenlohra , as well as north-east Pustleben . Niedergebra is only two kilometers away.

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 1212. Elende used to be a place of pilgrimage; a collegiate monastery with 6 canons supervised the pilgrimage. The village was and is characterized by agriculture. On January 22, 1994, the village was incorporated as a district after Bleicherode. Elende was already well known in Germany in the Middle Ages for traders who used the forest as a shelter. In terms of traffic, the residents can use public transport, but they usually switch to their own vehicles because bus transport is supposed to be very cumbersome.
