history

Friedrichslohra was first mentioned in a document in 1776/77. The place was only founded in the 18th century by a settlement measure by the Prussian King Friedrich II . Wool spinners and weavers were mainly settled from Eichsfeld, but also from Austria and Italy. The street in which the first (22) houses were built is therefore still called 22-er Straße. During the 19th century, the State of Prussia carried out projects to seduce Sinti in Friedrichslohra. From 1831 to 1837 there was a “home of education” in the building now used as a kindergarten. There are two churches in Friedrichslohra, the Protestant Church of St. Bonifatius and the Catholic Church of St. Bonifatius . On July 1, 1950, the community of Großlohra was created through the amalgamation of the previous communities of Friedrichslohra, Großwend and Kleinenken.
