Tadija Kačar

Tadija Kačar (born January 16, 1956 in Perućica near Jajce , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Yugoslavia ) is a former Yugoslav boxer .

At the 3rd European Junior Championship in Kiev in 1974, he was able to win the silver medal in the welterweight division . He beat Jenő Danyi from Hungary, Hans Bong from Sweden and the British Kirkland Laing before losing in the final against Mikhail Bychkov from the Soviet Union.

At the 21st Summer Olympics in Montreal in 1976 , he won the silver medal in the light middleweight division . He won against the Dane Poul Frandsen, the Iranian Mohamed Azarhazin and the Romanian Vasile Didea, before losing to the Poland Jerzy Rybicki in the final .

In 1977 he took part in the light middleweight division at the 22nd European Championship in Germany , where he lost his first fight against the Scots Charles Malarkey. For this he won the 1st Feliks Stamm Memorial in Warsaw in the same year . He defeated Pedro Cárdenas from Cuba, Paweł Skrzecz (2nd place Olympia 1980) from Poland and John Odhiambo (Olympian 1976) from Uganda.

In 1978 and 1979 he was Yugoslav light heavyweight champion . In 1978 he also won the silver medal in the light heavyweight division at the 2nd World Cup in Belgrade . After victories against Dimitar Lubenov from Bulgaria and Herbert Bauch from Germany, he lost in the final against the Cuban Sixto Soria .

In 1979 he also won the 8th Mediterranean Games in Split . He started in the middleweight division in order not to have to compete against his brother who was also fighting in the light heavyweight division; his brother was also able to win the gold medal. He also appeared in 1979 at the 23rd European Championship in Germany , where he won the silver medal in the light heavyweight division. He won against Bozhidar Ivanov from Bulgaria, Kurt Seiler from Germany and Giorgica Donici from Romania before losing to Albert Nikolyan from the Soviet Union in the final.

In 1981 he was Yugoslav runner-up in the light heavyweight division. He lost in the final to Pero Tadić (bronze medalist at the 1982 World Cup).

In 1980 he was awarded the "Titov zlatinik" gold coin together with karate master Jovica Božić.

Relatives

His younger brother Slobodan Kačar was a light heavyweight boxer, Olympic champion from 1980 and IBF world champion from December 1985 to September 1986. He is also the uncle of professional footballer Gojko Kačar from Hamburger SV .
