Großwend is a district of Großlohra in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia .
geography
The corridor of Großbaren lies on the northern edge of the northwestern foothills of the Hainleite ridge . The land flattens out to the north, followed by smaller hills in the hilly agricultural terrain . The Wipper runs in the valley . In addition to Landesstraße 3080 and the Halle – Hann. Münden , the federal autobahn 38 leads through the area, which is well-developed in terms of traffic.
history
Großbaren was first mentioned in a document in 1344. The villages of Großwend and Kleinwend emerged in the Middle Ages as presumably Slavic settlements. The rural places were and are agriculturally oriented. During the time in the GDR they had to take the route of forced collectivization . Today new ownership structures have emerged, according to which the land is cultivated.
On July 1, 1950, the community of Großlohra was created through the amalgamation of the previous communities of Friedrichslohra, Großwend and Kleinenken.
Culture and sights
The Protestant branch church St. Stephanus is a small, simple, baroque hall building made of plastered rubble stones without a tower. It was built in the 17th century. The nave contains a wooden gallery dating from the period of construction and a pulpit altar from this period as well as a stuccoed barrel vault . The bell is from 1474.
