Brattendorf is a district of the municipality of Auengrund in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

location

The district is located on the southwestern edge of the Thuringian Slate Mountains between the cities of Schleusingen , Eisfeld and Hildburghausen . The place is located between the mountains Priemäusel and Süssberg . It has a direct connection to the federal highway 4 . The mean altitude is 400 meters above sea level.

history

Brattendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1300. The village emerged from a manor . In 1645 there were only two residents left due to the effects of the war. In 1666 there were still 16 houses in ruins and 15 houses were occupied by 50 people. 840 people now live in the village. From 1890 to 1967, trains on the narrow-gauge line to Schönbrunn , known as Gründerla , which connected Eisfeld with Unterneubrunn, stopped at Brattendorf station . In 1974 the line was dismantled. The former station building now serves as a residential building.

On September 26, 1959, the LPG United Force was founded . The border measures of the GDR were a great burden for the population in the village and the surrounding area. After the fall of the Wall , three large industrial areas were built around Brattendorf.

Culture

The village church Brattendorf on the edge of the village is a cultural building . The traditional bakery is worth mentioning. Every year there is a festival where cakes and onion tarts are baked in the bakery.

Every year the Heimatverein organizes a fair. A whole weekend in September or October is celebrated in the marquee on the sports field. The fair society performs their dances in traditional costumes on Saturday and Sunday evening. The fair is concluded with a funeral, at which the fair is symbolically buried.
