Crock is a district of the municipality of Auengrund in the Hildburghausen district in the south of Thuringia .
geography
Crock is located on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest at 450-480 m above sea level and has about 1100 inhabitants. St. Vitus Church is located on the Irmelsberg north of the village and is approx. 530 m high . To the northeast, the Irmelsberg merges into the Klingeberg (677 m), which in turn is a pre-summit 760-842 m high mountains that connect to the northeast.
history
The village, first mentioned in 1152 as Cracte (valley cut), probably has its origins in the early cult site on the Irmelsberg, where a chapel has probably existed since Christianization, which was replaced by the church that still exists today and was a destination for pilgrimages until the Reformation . The place below the church was first mentioned in the 12th century by the Banz monastery and the Bamberg monastery in the possession of the Counts of Henneberg , who later ceded part to the Sonnefeld monastery .
In the Thirty Years' War about half of the building was destroyed the town. From the middle of the 17th century there were unsuccessful attempts at gold panning and iron mining in Crock. From the 18th century onwards, mining gained importance with the mining of hard coal, which continued until after 1900.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Oberwind was incorporated.
On January 1, 1996, Crock was incorporated into the unified community Auengrund.
