Thuringian Forest Association

The Thuringian Forest Association ( ThWV for short , rarely also TWV ) was founded on August 29, 1880 in Ilmenau . It had a total of 134 branches with 16,000 members.

Its purpose was to unite all efforts aimed at awakening and cultivating love for the Thuringian Forest as well as facilitating and promoting its visit.

Activities were:

  1. Installation of signposts and the creation and improvement of paths.
  2. Development of new viewpoints, installation of resting places and accommodation facilities.
  3. Reference to recommended routes and travel plans, recommendation and dissemination of reliable travel guides, maps and panoramic views.
  4. Monitoring of the inn and guide system as well as the car traffic to protect tourists from discrimination.

The association magazine was the "Thuringian Monthly Papers".

In the years 1933 to 1945 the association was a member of the Reichsbund for physical exercises .

On September 22, 1990 the association was founded as the Thuringian Forest Association 1880 e. V. re-established. It currently comprises 36 branches with a total of around 2500 members. The seat of the association is today in Tabarz . It is entered in the register of associations at the Gotha District Court (VR 140954).
