Eichendorff badge

The Eichendorff badge is the highest state award for mountain and hiking clubs in the Federal Republic of Germany .

It was donated in 1983 by the then Federal President Karl Carstens . It is awarded annually by the Federal President to hiking and mountain associations that have earned a special reputation for the maintenance and promotion of hiking, the idea of home and environmental awareness and which must exist for at least 100 years. The award is primarily intended for member associations of the Association of German Mountain and Hiking Associations and their subdivisions (local groups, branch associations, departments). The award ceremony is coordinated under the leadership of the presidium and management of the association.

The plaque was named after the poet Joseph von Eichendorff .
