history

On January 1, 1876, the "Frankenwald Section" was founded as a sub-section of Trostberg of the German and Austrian Alpine Association in Nordhalben . A Greiz section was formed there , which became independent in 1882, just like the Fichtelgebirge sections in Wunsiedel , forerunner of the Fichtelgebirgsverein , and Lichtenfels a few years later . Naila has been the seat of the association since 1883. In 1887 a wooden observation tower was inaugurated on the Döbraberg . On October 30, 1898, the association was given its current name, Frankenwaldverein. The newly founded association took over the Döbraturm and the inventory of the section. The founder of the association is Dr. Oskar Köhl from Naila. In the years that followed, several new local groups were formed, including the Kronach local group relatively late in 1911. Beautification clubs joined the Frankenwaldverein as local groups, Schauenstein and Presseck in 1909, and Seibelsdorf followed a little later . In the period before the First World War, the association built several stone lookout towers, which were preceded by three dilapidated wooden structures. Lorenz Reinhard Spitzenpfeil created the club logo, which is still used today, in 1924. He designed the cover of the club magazine and designed various club awards and illustrations. The 50th anniversary of the association was celebrated in Kronach in 1926 with a two-day supporting program and an elaborate historical parade.
