The Radspitzturm is an observation tower of the Franconian Forest Association . It is located on the Radspitze near Seibelsdorf .

Location and appearance

The Radspitze belongs to the municipality of Marktrodach in the Upper Franconian district of Kronach . It lies on an old border, now part of the Kulmbach district . Today's tower with a square foundation is 20 meters high. It can be reached via the federal highway 303 to Seibelsdorf or the federal highway 173 to Wallenfels .

History of the tower

In 1859 the Royal Bavarian Cadastral Office declared the Radspitze to be the main triangular network point of the first order and set up a wooden signal that did not withstand the weather for long. Kronacher and Stadtsteinacher Naturfreunde decided in 1886 to build a wooden observation tower eleven meters high, which was reinserted in 1893 because it was dilapidated. From 1910 onwards, both the Land Surveying Office and the Friends of Nature considered building a tower again. Joint negotiations failed and the Radspitzturmbauverein e. V. dissolved again. The land surveying office again set up a wooden signal that was in operation until 1934. In 1925, the newly founded Seibelsdorf branch of the Franconian Forest Association called the tower building idea back on the scene. The collected money was devalued by inflation and currency conversion at the end of the war. In the post-war period, the Seibelsdorf branch was founded again and the tower began to take shape at the end of 1954. There were active members, supporters and sponsors, e.g. B. the company Loewe-Opta , so that the main board with Hans Seiffert could place the building contract on March 20, 1955 after an extraordinary general meeting. The inauguration ceremony took place on September 4, 1955.
