history

The place was in 1401 for the first time in the fief book of the burgrave Johann III. mentioned by Nuremberg . It was probably created as early as the second half of the 14th century during the construction of the castle in Rodeck, the Castrum Radekke . In 1484 the place already had seven courtyards, by 1763 these were divided into 14 partial courtyards. In 1959/60 building activity began. Today the place comprises 165 houses, almost half of which were built after 1948.

On May 1, 1978, the previously independent community was incorporated into the town of Schwarzenbach am Wald.

Origin of the place name

Over the centuries the place was also known as Döbrey, Dobra, Tobra, Döbera and Dobera. Although a Slavic origin of the name is considered unlikely, it can be interpreted from the Slavic Dabra as a designation for good water , especially because the Döbrabach was used in earlier times to wash the ores extracted on site. At first the adjoining brook was called Döbra and only later the village was named after it. The adjacent mountain was originally called Chulm or Culm and was renamed Döbraberg in the 17th century to avoid confusion with the mountain of the same name in neighboring Thuringia . The small town of Kleindöbra lies between Schwarzenbach am Wald and Döbra.

economy

Originally it was cleared and ore was mined. In later centuries those who were not engaged in agriculture were engaged in weaving. The textile industry grew in importance in the 20th century and reached its peak in the late 1980s. At the moment there is still a large employer in mechanical engineering, a few farms and numerous pensions. Many workers commute to the surrounding cities.

Transport links

Döbra is a little off the beaten track. To the north, about three kilometers away, the federal highway 173 can be reached via Schwarzenbach am Wald. About 15 kilometers away you can reach the federal highway 9 via Naila . Other district roads connect Döbra with Helmbrechts and Stadtsteinach . From 1910 to 1973 Döbra was connected to the German railway network via the Naila – Schwarzenbach line. The route was closed in 1994 and later dismantled, and a cycle path was built in sections on the route.

Leisure and culture

In summer, Döbra offers numerous hiking opportunities around Döbraberg, which can be reached in around ten minutes. Numerous cross-country trails are groomed in winter, and there is a ski run with a drag lift in Döbrastöcken. In neighboring Schwarzenbach am Wald there is an indoor swimming pool, a larger ski run with a drag lift and various sports clubs.
