history

Office of the Swabian Alb Association in Tübingen (Gartenstrasse 19) in the 1930s.

On August 13, 1888, at the invitation of Valentin Salzmann, representatives of several beautification associations met in Plochingen with the aim of jointly improving the work of the existing beautification associations on the Albtrauf . At the constituent meeting on November 12, 1888 in Plochingen, Salzmann presented the first draft of the Albverein's statutes, which were finally brought into being a little later. The first committee meeting took place on April 22, 1889 in Plochingen. At the first general meeting of the association on May 5, 1889 in Plochingen, Salzmann was elected chairman, Ernst Camerer secretary and deputy chairman, Gustav Ströhmfeld as computer and Eugen Nägele as secretary.

Eugen Nägele had been deputy chairman since 1890 and after he was elected chairman in 1913, the seat of the association was relocated to Tübingen. In 1925 the association bought a villa-like house at 19 Gartenstrasse and had it converted for its office under the direction of the architect Gustav Stähle. The house was built around an annex on the western side. a. the stairwell is located, as well as the second floor and the roof structure, so that after the renovation, the outside of the building appeared as a "fast new building".

This results in extensive hiking and event programs as well as many opportunities for recreation, relaxation and socializing.
