Oswald Rathfelder

Oswald Rathfelder (born August 23, 1922 in Meßstetten ; † February 25, 2011 ) was a German scientist , botanist and conservationist .

Life

Raised up in Meßstetten as one of seven siblings, Rathfelder attended the local elementary school and high schools in Ebingen and Tübingen . In World War II Rath Fields worked as a pilot and flight instructor. After a short English captivity, he studied natural sciences in Tübingen after the end of the war , where he obtained his doctorate in 1952 with the dissertation of the course of the vascular bundles with special consideration of the protoxyl development in Pulsatilla vulgaris . He worked as a scientific assistant at the Institute for Applied Botany there. Rathfelder then worked at the State Agency for Nature Conservation in Ludwigsburg . From 1956 to 1973 he was head of the newly created district office for nature conservation and landscape management in North Württemberg in Stuttgart . In 1973 Rathfelder was appointed to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Environment and Forests , where he was also responsible for issues relating to nature conservation as a senior ministerial advisor. In 1984 he was adopted into retirement.

Rathfelder was a member of the board of the Swabian Heimatbund from 1956 to 1994 and its deputy chairman from 1973 to 1994. From 1956 he was also active in the Swabian Alb Association, where he was vice-president for 20 years. From 1969 Rathfelder was a member of the Presidium of the German Homeland Federation , whose department of land maintenance and environmental protection he headed from 1974 and of which he was vice-president from 1981. He was also active in the Baden-Württemberg State Nature Conservation Association , the German Forest Protection Association and the Society for Natural History in Württemberg .

Rahtfelder last lived in Stuttgart- Bad Cannstatt . He was married and had three children.
