Redhead sheep

The red head sheep (Rouge du Roussillon) is a breed of sheep from the French Pyrenees (group of fox sheep, see also Coburg fox sheep ) that is threatened with extinction. Due to their robustness, they can be kept outdoors all year round.

The head and legs of the red-headed sheep are reddish-brown in color, the tail is long and thin and the ears are pointed slightly forward.

In 1979 the last larger herd was on its way to the slaughterhouse and could be bought up at the last minute. The Nuremberg Zoo has been breeding this breed since 1981 with the aim of returning this endangered livestock breed to its original home.
