Lookout tower and memorial stone
At the highest point of the mountain is the Hohe Warte tower , a 23 m high observation tower belonging to the Swabian Alb Association . Before there was the tower that stood on the same spot a 1896 erected high position , which was in 1905 replaced by a view framework. However, this too had lapsed again by 1911. During the inflation period of 1922/23 , today's brick tower was built at great sacrifice by the members of the association and inaugurated on July 1, 1923. The tower was designed by the architect Albert Unseld from Ulm .
The tower was built as a memorial for the members of the Swabian Alb Association who died in the First World War . A memorial stone at the foot of the tower, on which the association holds a memorial ceremony every year on the second Sunday in October, also commemorates this purpose. The year numbers on the memorial stone now also include the Second World War .
From the tower one overlooks the Ermstal as well as the areas of the Middle Kuppenalb and the Alb foreland to the east and northeast . In the north and west, the Schurwald , the Schönbuch and the landscape around Tübingen can be seen. On days with a very good view, the view extends south to the Alps .
The tower is always open. There is also a fireplace at his feet.
