Eschelhof
The Eschelhof on a flat hill ( 492 m above sea level ) on the plateau of the Murrhardt Forest consists of two half-timbered houses and three ancillary buildings and has been used as a hiking home since 1976. It is located on the outskirts of Ittenberg , a district of Sulzbach an der Murr in the Rems-Murr district, three kilometers south of the main town, and is surrounded by a clearing island , which, together with small parts of the forest on its edge, forms a small landscape protection area within the Schwäbisch Nature Park. The buildings were used for many years by the forest administration and from 1828 as a primary school for Eschelhof and the Sulzbach suburb of Ittenberg and the Murrhardt suburb of Siebenknie . The former forester's house (today's address: Eschelhof 1 ) bears the dates 1722 and 1787, the other building (Eschelhof 2 ), which was used as a schoolhouse, was built around 1800. In 1975 the Swabian Alb Association took over the forester's house as a tenant. After being converted and converted into a hiking home, it was inaugurated on October 24, 1976 by Helmut Schönnamsgruber , the then president of the Swabian Alb Association. In 1980 the Swabian Alb Association also took over the former schoolhouse and expanded it. The inauguration was on May 16, 1985. On the weekends, the Eschelhof is alternately served by local groups.
The Eschelhof is on the route of the Jakobspilgerweg which leads from Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Rottenburg am Neckar , as well as on the Georg-Fahrbach-Weg . This 130 km long long-distance hiking trail of the Swabian Alb Association, opened in 1977, connects his place of birth Ingelfingen- Criesbach in the Hohenlohe district with Stuttgart-Uhlbach, based on the life of Georg Fahrbach .
