Helmut Schönnamsgruber

Helmut Schönnamsgruber (born November 15, 1921 in Stuttgart ; † October 11, 2008 ) was a German scientist , nature conservationist and club and association functionary.

Life

Schönnamsgruber graduated from high school in Stuttgart. From 1948 to 1951 he studied natural sciences with the main subject botany and the minor subjects chemistry , geology and zoology at the TH Stuttgart .

From 1953 to 1961 he was a research assistant at the Forest Research Institute . In his dissertation in 1954, Schönnamsgruber conducted studies on the phosphate balance of young wood plants, especially poplars . From 1954 to 1957 he headed the site studies and ecology section as a scientific assistant at the forest research institute . From 1957 to 1961 he was a scientific assistant in the Soil Science and Fertilization Department at the research institute .

In 1958, Schönnamsgruber became managing director of the Association for Forest Locational Research and Forest Plant Breeding e. V. in Freiburg im Breisgau . His successor in 1962 was Gerhard Mühlhäußer.

From 1961 to 1971 Schönnamsgruber headed the district office for nature conservation and landscape management in South Württemberg-Hohenzollern in Tübingen . In 1963 he took on teaching positions at the University of Tübingen and at the State Administration School in Haigerloch . From 1971 to 1976 Schönnamsgruber was director of the State Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management in Baden-Württemberg . With the incorporation of the state office into the newly created state institute for environmental protection in Karlsruhe in 1974, he most recently took over the management of the Institute for Ecology and Nature Conservation. He headed this until his retirement on January 30, 1983. From 1982 to 1983, Schönnamsgruber was in charge of various specialist seminars on landscape management, which the Nature Conservation Fund Foundation at the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Environment and Forests of Baden-Württemberg in cooperation with the State Institute for Environmental protection carried out.

From 1972 to 1974 Schönnamsgruber was chairman of the Society for Natural History in Württemberg .

From 1972 to 2001 Schönnamsgruber held the post of honorary professor for regional culture at the University of Hohenheim .

From 1973 to 1991 Schönnamsgruber was President of the Swabian Alb Association . He also held the office of Vice President of the Association of German Mountain and Hiking Clubs .

Schönnamsgruber was a member of the Lions Club in his home town of Waldbronn .

Honors

In 1991 Schönnamsgruber was appointed honorary president of the Swabian Alb Association. In 1991 he received the Great Federal Cross of Merit . On May 8, 1993 Schönnamsgruber was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg .
