Ernst Camerer (born December 21, 1836 in Reutlingen , † May 2, 1919 in Esslingen am Neckar ) was a German lawyer and association official. He worked as a lawyer in Esslingen.

life and work

On August 13, 1888, at the invitation of Valentin Salzmann , the representatives of several beautification societies met in Plochingen with the aim of jointly improving the work of the existing beautification societies on the Albtrauf . At the constituent meeting on November 12, 1888 in Plochingen, Salzmann presented the first draft of the statutes of the Swabian Alb Association , which was finally brought into being a little later. Camerer was a member of the first committee meeting on April 22, 1889 in Plochingen. At the first general meeting of the association on May 5, 1889 in Plochingen, he was elected secretary and deputy board member. After Salzmann's death, he was elected the second president in the club's history at the general meeting on March 25, 1890 in Plochingen. Under his presidency, the club organization was with local groups and districts developed and expanded, it became the network of paths created and called on uniform principles, there were towers and hiking homes built since 1892 hiking maps issued as an association gift and 1893, the Association publishing house founded. In 1913 he handed over the management of the club to Eugen Nägele .

Camerer had been married to Sophie Eleonore, nee Kapff, since 1864. He is buried in the Ebershaldenfriedhof in Esslingen.

Honors

On the rock of slides near Bad Urach in the Swabian Alb is the Camererstein , a monument dedicated to Camerer in the form of a stone with a bronze portrait.

The Salzmann-Camerer monument in Esslingen am Neckar is dedicated to Camerer and Salzmann together, which was erected in 1921 by the Esslingen branch of the Swabian Alb Association. In 1970 the monument was moved from the Maille to the Kirschenbuckel between the Esslingen districts of Krummenacker and Serach due to the construction of the Vogelsang Bridge .
