Tobias Neuhann

Tobias Neuhann (born June 25, 1950 ) is a German ophthalmologist . He was the first ophthalmologist in the world to use the toric implantable contact lens .

Career

Neuhann studied human medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich from 1972 to 1978 and then worked for six years at the Institute of Forensic Medicine and at the University's eye clinic. From 1983 he worked in a group practice for ophthalmology until he founded the group ophthalmological practice at Marienplatz in 1998. Since 1998 he has been clinical director of the Marienplatz eye clinic and since 2006 clinical director of the medical care center for ophthalmology “Ophthalmologists at the Opera”, which he also founded. In 2013 Tobias Neuhann also took over the clinical management of the Cornea Transplant and Keratoconus Center in Munich, which he set up with the support of Raphael Neuhann.

Scientific activity

Neuhann researched the toric multifocal lens as well as cataract and glaucoma operations. He also presented ways to stabilize the lens in astigmatism and developed special surgical instruments.

Neuhann was the first in Germany to use the ICL process in 1995 and was subsequently involved in its further development. In 1999 he was the first in the world to use the toric implantable contact lens, which is used for astopia . In addition, he uses the rarely used laser vitreolysis against vitreous opacity.

Tobias Neuhann published the results of his examinations and treatments around the implantable contact lens in the specialist journals Clinical Monthly Journal for Ophthalmology , Spectrum of Ophthalmology , Ophthalmology and in Ophthalmologists . In addition, he was recognized by the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery as a "recognized reviewer" with the "Certificate of reviewing".

Neuhann gave lectures at the international congress of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as at the international congress of German ophthalmic surgeons and at congresses of the German-speaking Society for Intraocular Lens Implantation , some of which he also chaired. He was awarded a DOC medal for his main lecture at the International Congress of German Ophthalmic Surgeons and his participation in a symposium. He received further DOC medals in 2014 and 2011 at the International Congress of German Ophthalmologists for special services to ophthalmology .

Awards

Tobias Neuhann received the BDOC seal of approval for eye surgery. At the 12th International Visian ICL Expert Symposium, he was awarded the “Best Paper of the Session” award. In 2011 the American Academy of Ophthalmology presented him with the Achievement Award because he was involved in the approval of two new lens implants. He also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International ICL User Meeting for his work on the further development of the artificial lens.

In 2008 Tobias Neuhann received the Fyodorov Award, also for the clinical innovations of the last 25 years. He has also received numerous "Oscars" for his operation videos on new surgical techniques.
