Ernst Waldemar Bauer MdL (born February 28, 1926 in Tübingen ; † June 4, 2015 in Ostfildern ) was a German television and radio journalist, biologist , book author , documentary filmmaker and politician ( FDP ).

Career

After attending the elementary school in Glems / Metzingen and the secondary school in Metzingen and Stuttgart, Bauer obtained his university entrance qualification at the Karls-Gymnasium Stuttgart . In 1944 he was used as an anti-aircraft helper. After the Second World War and his release from captivity, Bauer studied biology and geology at the University of Tübingen , where he received his doctorate in 1952 on the subject of annual fluctuations in heat resistance in plant seeds . In 1950 he married the photographer Isolde Mühlich, whom he had met in 1943. In the 1950s he wrote his first books and writings on biology and geology. During this time he also worked as a teacher and teacher trainer, especially at the Georgii grammar school in Esslingen am Neckar.

In the 1960s he was the author and editor of the journal Die Natur . From 1964 to 1988 he was director of the state seminar for school education in Esslingen am Neckar .

In 1964, the television producer Josef Göhlen brought him to Hessischer Rundfunk , where he presented the album of nature series for the newly created educational program . In 1968 he conceived the series Wunder der Erde , of which 89 episodes were initially shown on the 3rd hr television program . After the death of Bernhard Grzimek in 1987, Ernst W. Bauer took over the broadcasting slot for Ein Platz für Tiere in the 1st TV program of ARD on September 8, 1987 . Wunder der Erde showed above all the geological places on earth classified as the most beautiful, but also material about animals from camera operators from all over the world was presented. The success of Ein Platz für Tiere could not be repeated, but 95 episodes of this series ran in the following 17 years, for which there were also regular accompanying books. On December 31, 2006, the last episode of this series ran on ARD with a report about Alfred Wegener .

From 1984 to 1988 Ernst Waldemar Bauer was a member of the state parliament in Baden-Württemberg for the FDP in the Esslingen constituency . He was the environmental policy spokesman for the FDP / DVP parliamentary group and was later elected to the board of trustees of WWF Germany .

As a member of the European Academy for Environmental Issues in Tübingen, he was also committed to nature conservation.

Among other things, he was also the author and editor of all biology books for secondary schools and high schools of the Cornelsen school book publisher . His flagship work was the textbook on human biology .

Ernst Waldemar Bauer died at the age of 89. He was buried in the Weiler Park cemetery in the park settlement , a district of Ostfildern .
