A place for animals was a German television series of the Hessischer Rundfunk , which was broadcast irregularly in the ARD program from October 1956. In it, the zoologist, behavioral researcher and director of the Frankfurt Zoo , Bernhard Grzimek , imparted knowledge about animals to the audience and also discussed animal and nature conservation. In addition, he also brought animals from his zoo to the show. The television series has received several awards.

The program was broadcast for the first time on October 28, 1956, at that time under the name Ein Platz für Wilde Tiere . The transmission time was initially 15 minutes. With the growing popularity of Grzimek, the airtime was extended to 45 minutes and in the early 1970s it was given a fixed slot on Tuesday at 8:15 pm.

A total of 175 episodes were broadcast. With the death of Grzimek in March 1987 the program was stopped.
