Sammo Hung ( Chinese  洪金寶  /  洪金宝 , Pinyin Hóng Jīnbǎo , Jyutping Hung 4 Gam 1 bou 2 , Cantonese  Hung Kam-Bo , born January 7, 1952 in Hong Kong , nickname Sammo 三毛 , Sānmáo , Jyutping Saam 1 mou 4 , Cantonese  Sammo  - " Dreihaar ") is a Chinese actor and director for kung fu and martial arts films.

Life

He has choreographed fights for Bruce Lee , King Hu , Jackie Chan and John Woo . In many of these films he played mostly smaller roles. He usually mimes a fat, allegedly simple-minded man who then surprises his opponents with outstanding speed, agility and fighting technique.

Hung came to the "Master Yu Jim-Yuen Opera Academy" at the age of seven . A traditional teaching of Chinese opera , where as a young student you live and work for several years with the family or opera troupe of the master (" Shifu ") and practice Chinese martial arts , singing and acting on a daily basis . The "Shifu", or master, was responsible for both the strict professional training and human education. This early form of traditional training in acting in Chinese opera without additional schooling no longer exists today. Today it is comparable to a boarding school of the Chinese opera with parallel school education. At first, Master Yu Jim-Yuen was skeptical about the performance of the new applicant, because Hung was already a passionate eater and correspondingly plump. Impressed by Hung's acrobatic skills and his strong will, "Master Yuen" finally accepted him as a student. Hung was called here as a student "Yuen Lung" ( 元 龍  /  元 龙 ), because all students were given an actor's name by the master (cf. pseudonym , stage name ), which is related to the master's name, on the one hand to show him respect on the other to differentiate itself as a group from the many other apprentices of an opera company.

At school he met his future colleagues “Yuen Lau” ( 元 樓  /  元 楼 aka Jackie Chan ), “ Yuen Biao ” ( 元彪 aka Ha Ling-Chun), “ Yuen Wah ” ( 元 華  /  元 华 aka Yung Chi ), "Yuen Kwai" ( 元奎 aka Corey Yuen ) u. v. a. know. At the time, however, there was a rather rival relationship with Jackie Chan in particular, as Sammo was the "big brother" and had to supervise the younger classmates.

In addition to his films, he was also seen between 1998 and 2000 as the main actor in the American television series " Martial Law - The Karate Cop ". However, this was discontinued after only 44 episodes. The broadcaster justified this with Hung's inadequate knowledge of English and the aversion of American audiences to dubbed films.
