Yuen Wah

Yuen Wah ( Chinese  元 華  /  元 华 , Pinyin Yuán Huá , Jyutping Jyun 4 Waa 4 , born as Yung Chi 容 志 , Róng Zhì ; born September 2, 1950 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese actor , stunt performer and stunt choreographer who mainly works in Hong Kong feature film productions occurs. In Germany he became known to many viewers in his role as the landlord in Stephen Chow's action comedy Kung Fu Hustle (2005).

life and work

In his more than 40-year film career, he starred in over 170 films, including a. at the side of his classmates Jackie Chan , Sammo Hung , Corey Yuen and Yuen Biao , with whom he went to the Beijing Opera School (China Drama Academy) and became part of the "Seven Little Fortunes". He took the name "Yuen" in honor of his teacher ( Sifu ) Yu Jim Yuen.

He made his first appearances as a stunt double in the Bruce Lee films Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon . He also had his first regular appearance in Fist of Fury . He also took on roles for the productions of the legendary cult manufacturer Shaw Brothers .

His character is characterized by wiriness, versatility and the mustache, which mostly made him famous in the selection of villain roles and was formative.

In the 1980s he often played with his former schoolmates Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao in various action films, in which he almost always acted the bad guy.

In 2005 he received the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in Kung Fu Hustle .

He is married to Evina.
