Shaw Brothers , short for Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) Limited ( Chinese 邵氏 兄弟 （香港） 有限公司 , Pinyin Shào Shì Xiōngdì (Xiānggǎng) Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī , Jyutping Siu 6 si 6 Hing 1 dai 6 (Hoeng 1 gong 2 ) Jau 5 haan 6 Gung 1 si 1 ) was a film production company from Hong Kong that existed from 1925 to 1985 and primarily helped the martial arts film genre to break through. The historic studio area has been in Sai Kung since it was founded , in the immediate vicinity of today's HKUST campus .

The founders were the two brothers Runme Shaw ( 邵 仁 枚 , Shào Rénméi, 1901–1985 ) and Runrun Shaw ( 邵逸夫 , Shào Yìfū ; 1907–2014). Numerous technical innovations can be traced back to the Shaw Brothers.
A large proportion of the more than 1,000 films produced by Shaw Brothers were sold to Celestial Pictures ( 天 映 娛樂 / 天 映 娱乐 ) in 2000 , which they have since released on DVD .

One of the most famous directors who worked for Shaw was Chang Cheh . The most famous actors of the film studio are Jimmy Wang Yu , Ti Lung , David Chiang , Gordon Liu , Wu Ma , Cheng Pei-pei and Alexander Fu Sheng .
