Gordon Liu Chia-Hui , also known as Chia Hui Liu ( Chinese  劉家輝  /  刘家辉 , Pinyin Liú Jiāhuī , Jyutping Lau 4 Gaa 1 fai 1 , Cantonese  Lau Kar-Fai ), born as Xian Jinxi ( 冼錦熙  /  冼锦熙 , Xiǎn Jǐnxī , Jyutping Sin 2 Gam 2 hot 1 * thirtieth November 1955 in Guangdong , people's Republic of China ) is a Chinese martial arts - actors . He is the adopted brother of the director and actor Liu Chia-Liang ( 劉家良  /  刘家良 , Liú Jiāliáng , Jyutping Lau 4 Gaa 1 loeng 4 , Cantonese  Lau Kar-Leung ).

He is famous for his role as the Shaolin monk San Te in the film The 36 Chambers of Shaolin . His trademark, the shaved head, also comes from this film. Quentin Tarantino brought him back to a wide international audience with the films Kill Bill - Volume 1 as Johnny Mo and Kill Bill - Volume 2 as Pai Mei.

biography

Gordon Liu's parents moved to Hong Kong shortly after he was born . As a teenager, he allegedly skipped school to practice Hung-Gar- Kung-Fu. His parents didn't know about it. He trained with Liu Charn , a student of Lin Shi Rong , who was himself a direct student of Wong Fei Hung . His teacher later adopted him. As an adopted son, he took the name Lau Kar Fei .

Quentin Tarantino was a longtime fan of Liu and had long hoped that he would find a suitable role for him in one of his films. He found this with the cast as Johnny Mo and Pai Mei in his Kill Bill films. Since then, interest in Liu has increased again, especially for Chinese television productions.
