Xenorate is a free media player for Windows that can play audio and video as well as DVD and video CD formats.
development
A special feature of Xenorate is that it was not written in the programming language C or C ++ , but with Delphi, which is otherwise less used in this area .
The player was originally developed under the name MMX Player and later Xalerate, but this was given up for licensing reasons. In February 2003, the name Xenorate was finally chosen. Since then, Xenorate 2.2 has been downloaded more than 500,000 times and has appeared as a supplement to various computer magazines.
After a long break, development was continued in 2007 and a new version was published. A version 3 was announced by the developer for a longer period of time, which should further increase the dynamics and compatibility . A Linux version was not planned.
Range of functions
Xenorate supports around 50 video and audio formats , including popular music formats such as MP3 or Ogg , video formats such as DivX or QuickTime as well as direct video CDs , DVDs and live streaming as well as many exotic formats. In addition to the digital zoom , screenshot function and pitching, it also includes the otherwise uncommon option of displaying videos on the desktop . The automatic loading and display of subtitles as well as multiple audio and video tracks in one file or on a DVD is also supported. Also charges Xenorate also M3U - or PLS - playlists , but only stores in its own format.
Xenorate is based on DirectShow filters, which do not allow platform independence . Xenorate supports equalizers and a skin system , but like some other little things with version 2.5, these are not on the level of other media players such as. B. Winamp .
