The Colossus of Konga 1 ( Chinese  猩猩 王 , Pinyin Xīngxīng wáng , Jyutping Sing 1 sing 1 Wong 4  - "King of the Gorillas " 2 ; original title: The Mighty Peking Man , alternative title: Goliathon , also: Colossus of the Congo ) is one of Monster film produced by the Shaw Brothers in 1977. This Hong Kong film attempted to appeal to viewers in the vicinity of the remake of King Kong . The film was shown in Germany from January 20, 1978. In the English-speaking world, the film was first distributed as Goliathon and later as The Mighty Peking Man .

Directed by Ho Meng Hua , producer was Runme Shaw . Sadamasa Arikawa and Koichi Kawakita were responsible for the special effects. Danny Lee and the Swiss Evelyne Kraft could be won as leading actors .

A group from Hong Kong led by the adventurer Johnny goes to the Himalayan mountains to catch a giant monkey (the eponymous "Colossus of Konga"). The expedition initially fails and the greedy financier Lu Tien leaves Johnny to his fate. Shortly afterwards, he discovers a large ape-like creature who lives peacefully with a pretty blonde woman. The woman - Samantha - lost her parents in a plane crash and was raised by Utam, the giant ape. Like Tarzan , she learned to swing through the jungle and communicate with many wild animals. Johnny saves Samantha, the two fall in love and it is decided to return to civilization.

Lu Tien senses big business and, with great interest, Utam is shipped to Hong Kong. Samantha has a hard time getting used to the new environment. Johnny, on the other hand, reconciles with his girlfriend, even though her betrayal with his brother was the reason for his Himalayan adventure in the first place. Samantha notices this, runs away and is almost raped by Lu Tien. During their escape, Utam goes nuts, kills Lu Tien, spreads chaos in the city and ultimately climbs the tallest building, the Jardine House . Johnny and Samantha are now desperately trying to bring Utam back to the jungle. Like his great role model, King Kong , Utam is shot at by helicopters and falls to his death. While trying to save Utam, Johnny is shot and Samantha apparently dies in an explosion.

The Colossus of Konga had a budget of six million Hong Kong dollars . The film production lasted over a year and was shot in Mysore , India.
