Martial Law - The Karate-Cop (Original title: Martial Law ) is an American crime series by Carlton Cuse , which was filmed between 1998 and 2000 with Sammo Hung in the lead role. Guest stars included singer Taylor Dayne , Chuck Norris , Mario Van Peebles , Natalie Raitano and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine actors Michael Dorn and Armin Shimerman .

Sammo Law works as a police instructor in Shanghai . One of his best students is Pei Pei, who was smuggled undercover into the syndicate of criminal Lee Hei. When she fled to Los Angeles , Law was charged with pursuing her. The temporary stay eventually becomes a permanent position and Law stays in the US, as does Pei Pei.

The cast of the series was characterized by frequent changes of actors, Tammy Lauren left the series after six episodes. In episode nine, Arsenio Hall was introduced as a partner of Law. At the beginning of the second season, Louis Mandylor and Tom Wright left the series on the grounds that Louis Malone was transferred to New York and Captain Benjamin Winship has retired. At the same time, Gretchen Egolf became the new superior of the police department. The hunt for Lee Hei, which ran through the first season, ended at the beginning of the second season with the announcement of his death. A new storyline dealt with the long-lost son Laws, who is said to be a member of a secret society.

At the end of the second season, Law returns to China .
