Armin Shimerman (born November 5, 1949 in Lakewood , New Jersey ) is an American actor .

Life

Shimerman was born and raised in Lakewood, New Jersey. When he was 16, his family moved to Los Angeles , where his mother enrolled him in a theater company to improve his social life. He later graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles and shortly thereafter received an apprenticeship at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego . He initially pursued a career in the theater, moving to New York , but later returned to Los Angeles, where he appeared in two CBS series. One of these was the 1987-90 broadcast fantasy series Beauty and the Beast , where he played the recurring role of Pascal on the side of Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton . This marked the beginning of his television career.

He is probably best known as the Ferengi- Bartender Quark in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , but his Star Trek career began in the episode The Guardian of Starship Enterprise: The Next Century , in which he played another Ferengi.

Along with Jonathan Frakes , Marina Sirtis , John de Lancie , Michael Ansara and Richard Poe , he is one of six actors who have played the same role in three different Star Trek series. He played Quark in Starship Enterprise: The Next Century , Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Starship Voyager .

Shimerman is also known as Principal Snyder in Buffy the Vampire Slayer . He also had a role in the series Sledge Hammer! as a designer of RoboCop - Parody Hammeroid and in the series Stargate SG-1 as one of the Nox .

In May 1981 he married the actress Kitty Swink .

Since 1996 the actor has occasionally been heard as a voice actor for video games, including in Gothic 3 , BioShock and Ratchet & Clank . In the movie Ratchet & Clank , he also lends his voice to Doctor Nefarious.

Shimerman authored several books that provided a science fiction basis for the life of Dr. John Dee make up.
