John de Lancie (born March 20, 1948 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American actor , producer, writer and singer.

Life

John de Lancie attended Kent State University and won a scholarship to Juilliard. His father John de Lancie was for many years principal oboist in the Philadelphia Orchestra (the oboe concerto L'Horloge de Flore by Jean Françaix is dedicated to this musician ).

De Lancie has been an actor since 1975. He played in films such as Legacy , The Thorn Birds and The Hand on the Cradle . He also starred in series such as The Six Million Dollar Man , Kampfstern Galactica , Nero Wolfe and MacGyver . He also played the lead role with Richard Dean Anderson in the steampunk series Legend . However, he became famous for his role as the almighty being " Q " in the series Spaceship Enterprise - The Next Century . Among other things, he also had appearances as Q in the Star Trek series Spaceship Voyager and Deep Space Nine .
