Who is the boss? is an American sitcom that was produced in eight seasons (196 episodes) from 1984 to 1992 by the broadcaster ABC . The series was first broadcast on German television on December 7, 1992 on RTL .

action

In order to be able to offer his child a better life, the former baseball player Tony Micelli decides to move with his young daughter Samantha from the New York borough of Brooklyn to a small town near Fairfield County , Connecticut . He finds his first job as a housekeeper with Angela Bower, head of an advertising agency and single mother of her son Jonathan. Mona, the widowed, young-at-heart of Angela's mother, is a regular guest at the Bower house.

After the two families quickly become friends after initial difficulties and the question arises between Tony and Angela every now and then who of the two (according to the title) is actually the "boss" in the common house, both protagonists always come to each other in the course of the series closer. Nevertheless, it takes seven years before they confess their love for the first time in the 173rd episode.

Spin-offs

Based on who's the boss here? two spin-offs were developed that were to be established by backdoor pilots as part of the series, but both were ultimately discontinued after a few episodes. The series Charmed Lives with Fran Drescher and Donna Dixon emerged from the episode The Noodle Princess , the characters from Living Dolls were introduced in the episodes Sam in the modeling agency and From Cinderella to the model .

Remakes

In 1993 RTL showed a German remake of 15 early episodes under the title Ein Job fürs Leben . Tony was called Vito here and was an Italian guest worker from Berlin-Neukölln and a former Hertha BSC center forward . Angela Bower's name was Barbara Hoffmann and lived in the posh Hamburg suburb of Othmarschen . Apart from the name and location changes, the original scripts were implemented 1: 1.

As early as 1990, an independent adaptation of the series was shown on British television under the title The Upper Hand . 1998 and 2005 followed with Una familia con Ángel ( Mexico ) and ¿Quién es el jefe? ( Argentina ) two more remakes in Spanish. There was also a remake in Turkey under the title Patron Kim bilmek lazim .
