James Coco

James Coco (born March 21, 1930 in New York City , New York , † February 25, 1987 there ) was an American theater and film actor .

life and career

In 1970, the son of a shoemaker received a Tony nomination for Best Actor for his role in Neil Simon's play Last of the red hot lovers . For a guest role in the television series Chief Doctor Dr. Westphall received Coco an Emmy Award in 1983 . In the cinema, Coco was mainly seen in humorous roles, including as Sancho Pansa in the musical The Man from La Mancha (1972), as Hercule Poirot in A Corpse for Dessert (1976) and in The Muppets Conquer Manhattan (1984) .

For his role in the comedy Mrs. Hines & Daughter by Neil Simon , Coco was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in 1982 , although the awards went to Sir John Gielgud for Arthur - No Child of Sadness . At the same time he was nominated for the negative award Golden Raspberry , which Steve Forrest received in 1982 for My dear Raven Mother .

Coco died of a heart attack at the age of 56 .
