Life
Forrest began his film career in 1943 with a minor supporting role in Crash Drive . For ten years he only played small roles, mostly without naming his name in the credits. It wasn't until 1953 that he had his breakthrough with the role as Dirk DeJong in A Heart of Gold by Robert Wise . For this film he was awarded the Golden Globe as Most Promising Newcomer . As a result, he booked larger roles in Hollywood productions, such as in Hot Pavement alongside Robert Taylor and Janet Leigh and Night on the Boulevards alongside Anne Baxter . From 1956 he began working more often for television, followed by guest roles in Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Adventures in the Wild West . In 1960 he starred alongside Elvis Presley in the western Flaming Star and in 1962 in the award-winning war drama The Longest Day . This was followed by other engagements in television series, including Twilight Zone , On the Run and The People of Shiloh Ranch .
In 1966 he was engaged for the title role in the British agent series The Baron , which was dismissed after a year. Forrest continued to be a highly booked guest star on some of the most popular American series until the mid-1970s. In 1975 he was hired for the lead role as the SWAT team leader in the series The Knallharten Five . Forrest then worked almost exclusively for television productions, with a few exceptions, in the mid-1980s he had a recurring guest role in Dallas . He had his last film appearance in 2003 in a cameo role in the theatrical adaptation of The Knallharten Five with the title SWAT - The Special Unit .
Forrest was the youngest brother of actor Dana Andrews . He had been married since 1949 and had three children.
