Thousand Oaks ( German thousand oaks ) is a city in Ventura County in the US state California , United States , with 125,054 inhabitants (as of 2004 ). It is located a good 50 km northwest of downtown Los Angeles .

The urban area has a size of 142.5 km². Part of it is also known as Westlake Village , although administratively it is not part of the neighboring city of the same name in Los Angeles County .

The California Lutheran University (CLU) in Thousand Oaks has about 5,000 students living on campus. Among numerous exchange programs in many countries, she also maintains a program with the Martin Luther School in Rimbach in the Odenwald (Hesse).
