John Mayer (born June 11, 1982 in Thousand Oaks ) is an American volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career indoor volleyball

Mayer has played at Pierce College in Los Angeles since 2000 and was named California Master in 2002 as Most Valuable Player . The player then worked at Pepperdine University until 2005 . Here he was used in his final season as a libero and diagonal player and won the championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association .

Career beach volleyball

Mayer has also been active in beach volleyball since 2003. On the AVP tour he started with Matt Prosser , Jeff Nygaard (2009 victory in San Diego ) and Bradley Keenan (2014 victory in Saint Petersburg ). Keenan / Mayer also played on the FIVB World Tour from 2012 to 2014 . With Theodore Brunner , Mayer took fourth place in Xiamen in 2014 . Ryan Doherty was his partner from 2015 to 2017 . At the World Championships in the Netherlands , Doherty / Mayer landed in 17th place. They then won the AVP Open in Seattle and New Orleans and finished fifth in the FIVB Grand Slam in Long Beach and fourth in the FIVB Open in Cincinnati . With Trevor Crabb , Mayer won the FIVB tournaments in Lucerne and Jinjiang in 2018 .

Career as a coach

Mayer is also active as a volleyball and beach volleyball trainer. Until 2015 he coached the Corsairs from Santa Monica College , with whom he became California champions in his final season. Since then he has been the beach volleyball head coach at Loyola Marymount University .

Private

Mayer is married to volleyball player Paola Rodriguez and lives in Mar Vista .
