Patrick Long
Patrick Long (born July 28, 1981 in Thousand Oaks ) is an American racing car driver .
Career in motorsport
Patrick Long began his career in karting and switched to the monopostos in 1999 at the age of 18 . He came to Europe and was third in the French Formula Renault Campus series in 1999 and second in the Avon Tires Formula Ford Eurotour and the Slick 50 Formula Ford Championship in 2001 . In 2002 he drove a full season in the British Formula Renault Championship , which he finished in eighth overall (champion Danny Watts ). At the end of the year he was invited by Helmut Marko as one of six drivers for the Red Bull F1 Driver Search , but did not receive a contract.
He was also invited to test days by Porsche , where he received a contract as a junior driver. In his first season as a Porsche works driver, he mainly drove cup races. He won a race in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany and finished the championship in seventh overall (champion Frank Stippler ahead of Mike Rockenfeller and Romain Dumas ).
Long rose to become a regular Porsche works driver and still is. He is the only American among the current 10 factory drivers. Since joining Porsche, Long has been registered for a wide variety of racing teams and not infrequently the professional racing driver in teams of Porsche customers. In the USA he drove for Penske Racing and Flying Lizard Motorsports, among others , and has been a professional for the US actor and racing driver Patrick Dempsey since 2013 . In Europe he supported Raymond Narac , one of the largest Porsche dealers in France , in his motorsport activities .
Long is a busy pilot. Between 2003 and 2015 he competed in 221 races, celebrated four overall victories and no fewer than 29 successes in various racing classes. He celebrated class wins in almost all well-known sports car races. At the 24 Hours of Daytona , 2004 and 2007 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans , and in 2005 and 2014 at the 12 Hours of Sebring .
The name Long can also be found first in the final rankings of racing series. In 2005 , 2009 and 2010 he secured the GT2 classification of the American Le Mans Series .
