24 Hours of Le Mans 2014
The 82nd 24 Hours of Le Mans , the 82 e Grand Prix d'Endurance les 24 Heures du Mans , also Circuit de la Sarthe, Le Mans, France , took place from June 14th to 15th, 2014 on the Circuit des 24 heures took place.
The race
training
The first - four hours - free practice for the 24-hour race took place on the afternoon of June 11th. This training session was characterized by several accidents, which led to several interruptions in training. Loïc Duval had the most serious accident when he completely destroyed the Audi R18 with starting number 1 when it hit the track barrier in the area of the Porsche bends. Duval suffered only minor injuries. The accident forced Audi Motorsport and Joest Racing to have a new chassis built. The fastest vehicles in the first qualifying session in the evening were the two Porsche 919 Hybrids . Brendon Hartley achieved the best training time in the car with the number 20. The time of 3: 23.157 minutes corresponded to an average speed of 150 mph.
On Thursday, June 12th, the Audi team leadership, headed by Wolfgang Ullrich, announced that Duval would not take part in the race because the doctors advised him not to start. Marc Gené, originally registered for Jota Racing in the LMP2, was used for him. Oliver Turvey took over Gené's place at Jota . Aston Martin Racing announced the withdrawal of the number 99 car. Fernando Rees damaged the chassis of the Aston Martin Vantage so badly in an accident in the Porsche corners that it was no longer possible to repair it before the start of the race. With James Calado another driver after an accident on the start had to do without. As a substitute in the team AF Corse was Pierre Kaffer committed.
Kazuki Nakajima drove the fastest practice time in the Toyota TS040 Hybrid with a time of 3:21.789 minutes and thus started from pole position ; the average speed was 243.1 km / h.
Race course
Marcel Fässler , André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer won the race with an Audi R18 E-Tron quattro RP4 ahead of their team mates Lucas di Grassi , Marc Gené and Tom Kristensen . Third place went to Anthony Davidson , Nicolas Lapierre and Sébastien Buemi in a Toyota TS040 Hybrid .

Start list
On February 13, 2014, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, as the organizer, published a first preliminary starting list with 56 participants plus ten reserve teams. The last valid list was adapted several times before the start of the race and includes all registered teams, vehicles and drivers; even those who ultimately did not take part in the actual race (italics).
Reserve vehicles
As in previous years, the ACO published a list of reserve vehicles at the same time as the first preliminary start list. Five LMP and four GT teams were put on the list and were given the opportunity to replace those teams that were unable to take part in the race for a variety of reasons. The LMP reservists were only allowed to replace vehicles of the LMP1 and LMP2 class, just as the GT reservists were only allowed to replace GT vehicles. The advancement takes place in the order of the nomination.
