Ben Collins
Ben Collins (born February 13, 1975 in Bristol , England ) is a British racing driver . According to his autobiography , he appeared as The Stig on the UK television show Top Gear between 2003 and 2010 . He also works as a stunt driver for films such as James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace .
Life
Collins studied law at the University of Exeter and served four years in the British Army . He began his motorsport career in 1994 and drove in the Formula Vauxhall Junior and the Formula Opel Winter Series the following year . In 1996 he moved to the British Formula 3 Championship , where he drove for Fortec Motorsport and finished the season in eighth place. In 1999 he drove in the US Indy Lights series and finished thirteenth at the end of the season. He then returned to the British Formula 3 Championship and again achieved eighth place at the end of the season. In 2001, Collins drove with Werner Lupberger for Ascari Cars in the FIA Sports Car Championship , where they won in Donington Park . From 2003 to 2004 he competed for RML in the ASCAR series; in the first year he won six races and was champion. He then competed in the FIA GT Championship , the FIA GT3 European Championship and the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup .
In addition to his racing career, Collins works as a stunt driver for film and television. According to his autobiography , he appeared in 101 episodes between 2003 and 2010 as The Stig on the UK television show Top Gear . The Stig's identity had previously been kept secret for years. The BBC tried unsuccessfully to prevent publication.
On February 12, 2014 it was announced that he would be part of the Drivers Club of the new FIA Formula E Championship . However, it was not used in the series.
Collins is married with three children.
