Harri Juha Toivonen (born October 22, 1960 in Helsinki ) is a former Finnish racing driver .

family

Harri Toivonen is the son of Pauli Toivonen , a well-known rally driver from the 1960s, who won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1966 and the European Rally Championship in 1968 . His older brother Henri was also a rally driver and was one of the most successful drivers of the Group B era as a Lancia factory driver in the mid-1980s . He had a fatal accident in a Lancia Delta S4 at the Corsica Rally in 1986 .

Career

Like father and brother, Harri Toivonen also competed in rallies first. After starting in the Finnish rally championship, the first world rally championship round in which he participated was the 1000 Lakes Rally in 1980 . In 1986 he achieved his best result in an international rally with eighth place in an MG Metro 6R4 at the 1000 Lakes Rally.

In 1988 he switched to the circuit and continued to drive touring and sports car races . In 1990 Franz Konrad signed him for his Konrad Motorsport racing team . In 1990 and 1991 he competed for Konrad and Kremer Racing in the races of the World Sports Car Championship . His best place in these two years was third overall with Manuel Reuter in a Porsche 962 in the Suzuka 430 km race in 1991 . In 1992 he was part of the BRM team that tried in vain all year round to get the P351 up and running.

Toivonen competed in sports car races until the early 2000s and retired from active racing after the Daytona 24-hour race in 2002 .
