history

Franz Konrad entered the European GT Championship in 1976 , making his debut in international motorsport. In the following years he drove in the German racing championship . In 1980 he switched to the German Formula 3 Championship , which he won in 1983. At the end of the season in Diepholz, Konrad returned to the German racing championship and was able to celebrate his first victory in the racing series on a Porsche 956 . There he drove races in the following years. From the mid-1980s, Konrad also competed regularly for Kremer Racing in the Le Mans 24-hour race . A fourth place in 1987 in a Porsche 962 was followed by his best result in 1990 as a works driver for Jaguar with second place.

In 1989 Franz Konrad founded his own racing team with Konrad Motorsport . In 1990 the team made its debut in the Interseries . After a Porsche 962 entered the sports car world championship in 1991 at the beginning of the season , the team contested the last three races with the self-developed Konrad KM-011 . However, the vehicle was not very reliable and never saw the checkered flag. Even with a single use in the Interserie no points are scored. In 1992 Konrad Motorsport was again registered for the World Sports Car Championship, but never competed. Only in the Interseries did Franz Konrad start his prototype in the races at the Nürburgring. There he achieved a third and a fourth place. In 1993 the Porsche 911 won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and the Mil Milhas Brasil , which could be repeated in 1995. In addition, from 1993 the team regularly competed in the highlight of the season, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 1994 Konrad Motorsport entered the BPR Global GT Series , which in 1997 became the FIA GT Championship . In 1997 third place in the Daytona 24-hour race and a class win in the Sebring 12-hour race in 1998 .

From 1999 the team also contested the newly established American Le Mans Series . After the Porsche 911 GT2 was used at the beginning of the 2000 season , Konrad Motorsport competed in the last four races with a Lola prototype in the ALMS . At the end of the season Konrad Motorsport withdrew from the FIA GT championship for the time being and with the new Saleen S7R now fully concentrated on the ALMS. There the second place in the team ranking could be achieved both in 2001 and 2002. For the 2003 season Konrad Motorsport returned to the FIA GT Championship. Michael Bartels and Uwe Alzen won three races in 2004 in the Saleen S7R, which ran under the name Vitaphone Racing Team , but was still used by Konrad Motorsport this season. After the 2005 season, Konrad Motorsport ended his involvement in the FIA GT Championship.

In 2006 Konrad Motorsport was looking for a new challenge in the Porsche Supercup . The team also took part in the 24-hour race in Bahrain , which it finished victoriously. In 2007 he finished second in the Dubai 24-hour race . In the same year Konrad Motorsport fielded a Porsche 997 GT3 RSR in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and in the BFGoodrich endurance championship . Konrad driver Jeroen Bleekemolen won the Porsche Supercup in 2008 and 2009 and also secured Konrad Motorsport victory in the team classification.
