Uwe Alzen (born August 18, 1967 in Kirchen ) is a German automobile racing driver . Jürgen Alzen is his older brother who heads the Jürgen Alzen Motorsport team .

Career

The motorsport roots of the Alzen brothers on the Nürburgring Nordschleife are mainly in the VLN series , to which he remains loyal as long as the dates permit. Uwe is popular, but also feared, because of his often spectacular driving style and his poor diplomatic manner of expression, which rarely adheres to the language rules prescribed by the works teams.

Uwe Alzen drove in the German Touring Car Championship and International Touring Car Championship between 1993 and 1995 for the Mercedes-Benz team Persson Motorsport and in 1996 for Zakspeed - Opel . Then, from 1997 to 1999, he also drove for Opel in the Super Touring Car Cup and was runner-up in 1999 after the controversial season finale in which Christian Abt and especially Roland Asch were involved. The German Touring Car Masters was introduced in 2000 . After an internal collision with Manuel Reuter in the season finale, he had to leave Opel. Alzen ended his other DTM career at HWA due to differences shortly before the start of the 2003 season. He was replaced by Christijan Albers , who then became runner-up.

Uwe Alzen at the Porsche Carrera Cup 2006 in Germany

In 1993 he won the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race in a Porsche 911 Carrera RSR together with Christian Fittipaldi and Jean-Pierre Jarier . At the 1998 Le Mans 24 Hours in a Porsche 911 GT1 , his car was only beaten by his team-mates. In June 2000 he won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring together with Bernd Mayländer , Michael Bartels and Altfrid Heger in a Porsche 996 GT3 R from the “Porsche Center Koblenz” .

As a professional, Alzen is mainly active in the Porsche Cup series ( Carrera Cup Germany and Supercup ). He won the Porsche Supercup in 1994, the Germany variant in 1992, and again in 2007. In recent years he has often only narrowly missed this title against younger players, finishing second in both series in 2006, with four race wins each. In addition, he was u. a. 2004 on the road with Michael Bartels in the FIA GT championship on Saleen .
