Jörg Müller (born September 3, 1969 in Kerkrade , Netherlands ) from Hückelhoven is a German racing driver . He was a works driver for BMW in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup .

origin

Müller's father Ewald was one of the pioneers of German karting and drove in the 1960s and 1970s as a member of the German national kart team against future Formula 1 racing drivers such as Ronnie Peterson , Elio de Angelis and the Brambilla brothers . Jörg Müller's birthplace is in the Netherlands, as Ewald Müller was the operator of a kart track in Vaals near Aachen in the Netherlands at the time . When Ewald Müller took over a two-wheeler business in Hückelhoven in the early 1970s, the family moved from the Aachen area to Hückelhoven, not far away, where Jörg Müller grew up and completed an apprenticeship as a two-wheel mechanic.

Karting

Müller started karting at the age of five . He started in the Pop 100 class and won various titles in the ADAC Nordrhein district. During his active time as a kart racing driver, he was a member of the Burg Brüggen kart club , of which his father was chairman. The racing drivers Heinz-Harald Frentzen , Ellen Lohr , Nick Heidfeld and the well-known racing driver family Hahne also come from this club . With the team of KC Burg Brüggen, whose "Raderberg kart track" is in Niederkrüchten , Jörg Müller became German kart champion in 1984. He went karting until 1987.

Formula career

In 1988 Jörg Müller started in the Formula Ford 1600 and immediately won the German championship title. In 1990 he became European Formula Ford champion (2 liters). In 1989, Müller entered the Formula Opel Lotus Challenge, which he also won in the first year. From 1990 to 1994 he drove Formula 3 and became German Champion in 1994. In 1996 , Jörg Müller won the Formula 3000 European Championship straight away after a tough duel with Kenny Bräck , who was disqualified after a collision at the season finale. In 1997 he was a test driver with the Formula 1 team Arrows , from 1998 to 1999 for Sauber-Petronas and from 1999 to 2001 for Williams-BMW .

GT and touring cars

At the same time as racing in the formula, Jörg Müller started racing for BMW in the ADAC STW Cup in 1995 and in 1996 won the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps . In 1998 he earned his money in the FIA GT series in the USA , where he won the Daytona 24-hour race . The 24-hour race at Le Mans went Müller in 1997 with Nissan , 1998 Porsche and BMW in 1999. From 1999 to 2001 he worked in the ALMS in the Le Mans Prototype (LMP) category. From 2002 to 2004, he played in the European Touring Car Championship , which was upgraded to the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) from 2005 . In 2004 and 2010, Müller won the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in a BMW .
