Formula Opel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Formula Opel is a racing car class for single-seater racing car.

It was launched by the automobile manufacturer Opel in 1988 as a brand cup to promote young talent. The drivers started with uniform vehicles with 2-liter Opel engines, which developed 117 kW (160 hp) and aerodynamic aids such as front and rear spoilers. The vehicles had a uniform weight of 465 kg and were initially developed and built by Reynard Motorsport . Schübel Motorsport in Germany took over this task from 1992 .

Compared to other racing series, participation in the series was relatively cheap, but more cost-intensive than Formula Ford , Formula Junior or Formula King . Formula Opel was seen as a link to or replacement for Formula 3 .

It was also considered difficult as a newcomer to fine-tune and master the complicated device. Therefore, previous experience in a smaller brand formula was valuable.

It was driven in several national series in Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and the BeNeLux countries as well as in the Formula Opel Euroseries . In Great Britain this class was held as Formula Vauxhall .
