Motor vehicle manufacturer
The term motor vehicle manufacturer or motor vehicle manufacturer denotes both companies that produce motor vehicles and brands that have sales significance . In most cases, the actual manufacturer is identical to the associated brand . In the case of badge engineering , however, these differ from one another. For example, Société des Véhicules Automobiles de Batilly (SoVAB for short) is a manufacturer that produces for the Renault , Opel and Nissan brands . The manufacturer code in the vehicle identification number refers to the sales brand .
The most important division is the automobile manufacturers in the actual sense, followed by the motorcycle manufacturers (including motorcycle manufacturers ). Otherwise, the manufacturer group includes numerous other types of vehicle, such as amphibious vehicles , off-road vehicles , fire engines , street sweepers , mobile libraries , armored vehicles , concrete mixers , go- karts and racing cars , snowmobiles and golf carts . Together with the manufacturers of other vehicles (such as railway rolling stock , airplanes, etc.) they form the group of transport technology manufacturers .
In the international statistical classification ISIC / NACE of the economic sectors , the motor vehicle manufacturers are manufacturing / manufacturing of goods (C) and fall under two groups:
- Automobile manufacturers in the narrower sense include in the group / class manufacture of motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines (29.1 C [0]) where the engine manufacturers are also detected. This is a subgroup of the Manufacture of Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle PartsDepartment(C 29), which also includes motor vehicle equipment manufacturers or trailer manufacturers and parts from automotive suppliers .

Motor vehicle manufacturers, motor vehicle suppliers and suppliers ( production ) as well as motor vehicle trade ( sales ) together make up the motor vehicle industry . This together with the maintenance and repair companies (such as motor vehicle workshops ) and others (such as haulage companies , car rental companies ) the motor vehicle industry (motor vehicle industry) .

Of the motor vehicle manufacturers, Toyota , Ford , Volkswagen , General Motors and Daimler are five in the list of the 20 companies with the highest sales worldwide. Overall, the motor vehicle manufacturers have been considered to be the main economic drivers in the last few decades : A flagging motor vehicle industry is a clear indicator of the poor global economic situation, and the regaining strength of the motor vehicle industry is regularly the one that is dragging numerous other branches of the economy with it.
