Formula King
The Formula König was a brand formula series for youngsters that existed from 1987 to 2005 . The racing series was founded by the entrepreneur and manufacturer of car seats Richard König ( König comfort and racing seats ) and discontinued after the last major sponsor withdrew. However, the vehicles are still used in the context of events that can be described as "driving a formula car yourself".
The first season started in 1988 and the first champion was crowned: Michael Schumacher won nine out of ten races. Four years later, Werner Aichinger took over the formula series in conjunction with the AvD and DEKRA . In 1996 a successor model was built, which was used with minor modifications until the series was discontinued at the end of 2004. Volkswagen joined in 1997 as an engine supplier. A 1.4-liter four-cylinder with 16 valves and an output of 120 hp served as the drive source. A fiberglass-reinforced plastic chassis in the classic monoposto shape rested on a tubular lattice frame . The motor is embedded in the chassis and does not serve as a load-bearing element . The other technical data were:
- Engine control VW / Magneti Marelli
- Engine 4-cylinder 16V injection engine from VW ( POLO 16V ) with electron. Engine management and catalytic converter
