Tubular frame

A tubular frame is a load-bearing metal structure made of tubes . With the same tensile strength, pipes have a more favorable ratio of mass and strength than solid, non-hollow profiles, and they also deform less. Steel and aluminum alloys have established themselves as materials for tubular frames .

Because the area of the cross-section is much more important than the wall thickness for deformation due to bending and torsional moments, the mass of the frame can be reduced by using tubes .
