Ugljan (place)

Ugljan is a place with 1070 inhabitants in the north-western part of the island of Ugljan ( Croatia ).

Ugljan is on the regional transport route that runs along the island and has a small harbor where smaller yachts can moor; an anchorage for larger ships is located southeast of the port.

Attractions

Ugljan has some historical sights from early antiquity such as Villa Rustica , a mausoleum from late antiquity and the remains of an early Christian basilica . There is also an old oil press from the 1st century.

At the cape on the north side of the port there is an old Franciscan monastery from 1430 with a single-nave Gothic church from 1447 and interesting Romanesque capitals .

The remains of a Roman villa have been found next to the Batalaza Bay , and the remains of a prehistoric building to the southeast.

economy

The economic basis is agriculture, viticulture, olive growing, fruit growing, fishing and tourism.
