Thomas Winkelhock (born May 22, 1968 in Waiblingen ) is a former German automobile racing driver . He is the brother of the racing driver Manfred Winkelhock, who died in an accident in 1985, and Joachim . His nephew Markus is also active as a racing driver.

Career

Thomas Winkelhock started his professional racing career in Formula König , in which he was also the champion in his debut season. 1990 changed Winkelhock for Mercedes-Benz -Werksteam AMG in the German Touring Car Championship . In a Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evo , he was able to score five points in eleven races, which earned him 25th place in the classification. In 1992 Winkelhock was registered for a race for the BMW team MM Diebels Team , but could not start in the warm-up due to an engine failure. In 1991 he returned to the monoposto and drove first in Formula Opel , later in Formula Renault and Formula 3 . In 1997 Winkelhock tried again to gain a foothold in touring car racing and switched to Brinkmann Motorsport in the Dutch Touring Car Championship , but remained pointless. The following year he remained loyal to Brinkmann and entered the German Touring Car Challenge . With three wins and seven podium places, Winkelhock took the championship in a BMW 320i . Until 2004 Winkelhock stayed with Brinkmann in the DTC, later renamed the DMSB Production Car Championship , but was unable to defend his title. In 2005 and 2006 Winkelhock competed in the German Mini Challenge for two more years .

Today Thomas Winkelhock is the owner of a truck crane rental and towing service .
